40th Anniversary Celebration for General Carbide July 28, 2008 General Carbide Corporation, Greensburg, Pa., recently held a celebration for its employees on Friday, July 25, 2008, exactly 40 years to the day of the incorporation of the company. A proclamation signed by Congressman Tim Murphy of the 18th Congressional District, Pennsylvania was presented to Mona Pappafava-Ray, President and daughter of the founder Premo Pappafava. The proclamation recognized the founding of the company and the growth of General Carbide over the last 40 years. Also in attendance were Lorraine Pappafava and Marcy Pappafava of the founding family and members of the Board of Directors. General Carbide started in 1968 as a supplier to the metalforming industry, making tungsten carbide tooling blanks for the manufacture of fasteners and automotive parts. It has diversified significantly since then, servicing a wide range of industries from oil/gas exploration and production to electronic stamping dies to wear resistant components for the concrete and roof tile industries. The metalforming industry still represents a major part of the business and with over 50 grades of cemented carbide now available. We specialize in improving tool life in most any metalforming and industrial wear application including pure abrasion, high impingement erosive wear and chemical/mechanical corrosive wear including wear applications that involve high impact strength. General Carbide employs approximately 120 people in the production shop who have many years of experience in powder making, shaping, sintering and finish grinding of tungsten carbide. Our manufacturing capabilities ensure high quality and reliable delivery, matched to the needs of the industry served. In addition to the knowledgeable production employees, there is a seasoned office staff of application engineers and industry-savvy market managers that support the company’s sales efforts worldwide. General Carbide sells products globally and we have representation in Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
